SOUTHWEST STUDENTS CARE INITIATIVE (SSCI) - NANS ZONE D

The Southwest Students Care Initiative (SSCI) is a flagship welfare agenda of the Office of the Welfare Director, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, established to provide practical solutions to the socio-economic, educational, and developmental challenges facing students across the region.

Driven by the vision of creating opportunities and improving the overall wellbeing of students, the initiative adopts a holistic approach that combines welfare, empowerment, leadership development, health advocacy, and technological innovation.

Through Campus to Commerce (Alaba International Market), SSCI seeks to bridge the gap between education and entrepreneurship by exposing students to business opportunities and equipping them with practical knowledge relevant to the 21st-century economy.

The Operation Feed the Student project is designed to address food insecurity among students, ensuring that no student is left hungry and reinforcing the belief that access to food is a fundamental aspect of student welfare.

In partnership with relevant stakeholders, particularly the NDLEA, the Drug-Free Campus Advocacy Tour aims to promote awareness on substance abuse and build a responsible, healthy, and drug-free generation of students.

Recognizing the importance of community leadership, the Rural Youths and Students Leadership Symposium focuses on grooming emerging leaders at the grassroots level, empowering young people to become agents of transformation within their communities.

As a Food Technologist and advocate for public health, the initiative also presents the Food Safety Summit 2.0, a two-day conference dedicated to promoting safe food practices, healthy living, and sustainable solutions to food insecurity among students and society at large.

Furthermore, the Southwest Intervarsity Debate and Security Summit 2.0 provides a platform for intellectual engagement and dialogue on issues bordering on security, leadership, and national development, while encouraging critical thinking among students.

In line with the digital age, the initiative will also unveil My School Plug, an innovative platform designed to simplify students’ academic and financial experiences by providing seamless fee payment services at reduced charges, access to campus news and activities, and a repository of academic materials including past questions.

The Southwest Students Care Initiative represents more than a collection of programs; it is a commitment to building a student-centered system where welfare, empowerment, innovation, and leadership remain the driving forces of progress.

Under the leadership of Comrade Sadiq Adams (KIAKIA), Welfare Director, NANS Southwest Zone D, and with the support of the Coordinating Office led by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah (Billioncode), the initiative is poised to redefine student welfare and leave a lasting legacy across the Southwest region.

Leadership in Action: NANS Achieves Immediate Reinstatement of Suspended LAUTECH Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, is proud to announce the immediate reinstatement of all suspended students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH.

This victory was made possible by the timely intervention and relentless advocacy of the National Leadership of NANS under the visionary leadership of Comr. Akinteye Babtee Babatunde, President of NANS, working hand in hand with the Zonal Leadership.

When our students were pushed to the wall, NANS did not look away. We engaged, we negotiated, and we insisted that justice must be done. Today, those students have their right to education restored.

We will not allow blackmailers and agents of distraction to derail us from our core mandate: defending the Nigerian student constituency. While some seek clout, NANS seeks solutions.

To Comr. Babtee: Your accessibility and courage have shown that NANS leadership is not just a title, it is responsibility in action.

To the Zonal Leadership: Your coordination on ground proved that unity between National and Zones delivers results.

The step is sure. The leadership is solid. The era is blessed.

NANS will continue to protect every student, everywhere.

Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!

As part of preparations ahead of the scheduled maiden NANS Kwara Students’ Welfare & Security Summit 2026, I led members of the Local Organizing Committee and our media partner, paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi Ayodeji.

The visit provided an opportunity to officially unveil the summit, discuss the connection between students’ welfare, healthcare access, and security, and explore collaborative efforts towards creating safer and healthier learning environments across our campuses in the state.

I sincerely appreciate the warm reception and productive discussions with the Permanent Secretary as we continue engaging stakeholders who share our commitment to improving the wellbeing of students across Kwara State.

Together, we are building conversations that will inspire solutions and create lasting impact.

The Office of the National Vice President (Special Duties), NANS, officially celebrates Marvellous Itsuokor, a Computer Science student at Covenant University, for his remarkable achievement in securing the ₦50 Million Federal Government Student Venture Capital Grant for his AI-innovation, Pallo.

Marvellous has proven that with grit and technical brilliance, the Nigerian student is not just a participant in the global digital economy, but a leader.

His journey from a campus dorm room to securing national venture funding is the standard we are fighting for. The Office of the VP (Special Duties) is currently auditing institutional infrastructure precisely to ensure that thousands more students have the reliable power, high-speed internet, and lab access they need to build the "next Pallo."

We are not just advocating for better campuses; we are advocating for the creators who will build the future of this nation.

Congratulations, Marvellous. Your success is a win for every Nigerian student. We are proud to have you as part of our generation of innovators.
