The notice from NOUN (National Open University of Nigeria) details a significant shift in how Exam/Course registration and "Carryovers" are handled.
To put it simply: the system is becoming much more rigid regarding prerequisites.
Here is a breakdown of what that actually means:
1. The End of "Flexible" Registration
In the past, students could often register for a higher-level course even if they hadn't passed the lower-level version (e.g., taking a 200-level course while still carrying over the 100-level version).
The Change: The system is now "liquefied" (l.e Locked). You can no longer skip over failed courses.
2. Strict Prerequisite Locking
Let's use BUS105 and BUS106 as examples.
If BUS105 is a prerequisite for BUS106, you cannot register for Bus 106 until you have a passing grade for Bus 105.
Even if you have enough "credit unit space" in your portal to add both, the system will block the second course.
3. The "Backlog" Danger
This is the most critical part of the warning. If you fail a core course early on:
It creates a bottleneck.
Because you can't take the next level of courses, your "pending" list grows.
Eventually, the portal may block you from registering for any new courses at all until those old failures are cleared.
4. Impact on Graduation
The notice warns that if this happens in your final years ( 300L or 400L ), it will almost certainly force you into an extra semester (or year) because you'll be stuck waiting to pass one specific course before the rest of your path opens up.
