The National Association of University Students (NAUS), under the leadership of Comrade Shakiru Kareem, in a move to join force with DSS Lagos State Zone to curb/fight insecurity paid a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) to strengthen partnership and build cooperation that will benefit both students and the nation. During the visit, the Director of the DSS, Mr. Sheu Sheu, commended the efforts of NAUS and acknowledged the importance of student involvement in national development and peacekeeping. He emphasized that while the DSS is open to collaboration, all activities must follow due protocols and legal procedures before they can be carried out. He clarified that the DSS operates within a defined structure and cannot perform certain duties without proper approval or licensing from the relevant authorities.
Mr. Sheu further urged NAUS to build a more organized and structured relationship with the DSS and other key agencies. He stated that working together in a planned and coordinated manner will help to maintain peace, promote order, and ensure that good policies are implemented within higher institutions. He encouraged NAUS to always communicate clearly, plan ahead, and follow the right steps whenever they want to engage in activities that involve public interest or national matters.
Comrade Shakiru Kareem with his very vibrant members provided insights on how the DSS can further strengthen security within the state through hosting Security Awareness Programmes which would capture workshops, sensitisation and trainings in the universities to also help improve security and its consciousness in our society, given that students make the greatest population of the elite youths in the state. He also appreciated the DSS for the warm reception and expressed the association’s commitment to supporting peace, unity, and leadership growth among students. He emphasized that NAUS will always act within the law and continue to engage with government institutions in a responsible and respectful way. He stated that students are not just learners, but young leaders who are ready to contribute positively to the growth of the country.
The meeting ended in a good atmosphere, as both sides agreed to continue open communication and build a lasting relationship that will support student welfare, campus safety, and national progress.
