The National Association of University Students, NAUS, has declared Tiamiyu Ibrahim of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, as its president.
The decision, reached by a majority of the association’s national stakeholders at a meeting held over the weekend in Abuja, followed what they described as Ibrahim’s sacrifice in stepping down during the previous electoral process in the interest of unity.
The stakeholders, in a statement on Saturday signed by the association’s Chairman, Kunle Oyediran, and Secretary, Ashiru Muhammed, urged members, student leaders, affiliated institutions and other stakeholders to support the new leadership in the interest of unity, stability and the continued advancement of the association.
The statement reads: “Following extensive deliberations, the stakeholders carefully reviewed the outcome of the National Convention. During the meeting, observations were made regarding the number of accredited Senators present at the convention. It was established that the number of Senators in attendance did not constitute the quorum required for the conduct of an election.
“In view of this development, the stakeholders unanimously resolved to adopt the long-standing tradition and established convention of NAUS, which has historically guided the emergence of leadership within the association since its inception.
