_Urge the Commision to de-emphasize aggressive sting operations and adopt a more preventive and enlightenment-based approach_
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone C, ably led by the Deputy Coordinator, Comrade Azeez Abiola Adigun, paid a strategic visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, which oversees both Kwara and Kogi States.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarize with the Commission, establish a sustainable partnership to combat corruption and extortion across campuses, and jointly promote student sensitization on the dangers of cybercrime and social vices. The student leaders also expressed readiness to collaborate with the EFCC to foster peaceful, informed, and crime-free academic communities.
During the engagement, the NANS Zone C leadership charged the Commission to intensify its public awareness campaigns, particularly targeting students, while urging the EFCC to de-emphasize aggressive sting operations and adopt a more preventive and enlightenment-based approach to tackling financial and cyber-related crimes among youth.
In response, the EFCC assured the delegation of its commitment to working closely with the student constituency and reaffirmed that it operates strictly within the bounds of the law, based on verifiable intelligence and factual information. The Commission noted that despite its sincere efforts to sanitize the society, it often receives more condemnation than commendation for executing its duties.
Furthermore, the EFCC emphasized its growing investment in sensitization, rehabilitation, and counseling initiatives, reaffirming that its goal is not just to prosecute, but also to reform. Both parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration in launching anti-corruption education programs across tertiary institutions under the zone’s jurisdiction.
NANS Zone C remains resolute in its mission to protect the welfare of Nigerian students and ensure their academic environment is guided by integrity, safety, and transparency.
Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!
Signed:
Comrade Azeez Abiola Adigun
Deputy Coordinator, NANS Zone C
