NANS National Director of Sports Holds Strategic Meeting with Edo State Sports Commission

The National Director of Sports of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin, on Friday, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Edo State Sports Commission, where he held a productive meeting with the Executive Director of Sports (Development and Operations), Mrs. Sabina Chikere, and other senior officials of the Commission.

The meeting began with the formal introduction of the NANS delegation, after which the Commission was commended for its commitment to sports development and the remarkable progress recorded in advancing sporting excellence across Edo State.

Central to the discussions was the proposed Campus Sports Development Initiative, a comprehensive programme designed to strengthen sports development from the secondary school level through tertiary institutions and onto the national stage. The initiative seeks to identify, nurture and develop young sporting talents through structured competitions while creating a sustainable pathway for athletes to excel. Comrade Timileyin reaffirmed NANS' commitment to partnering with the Edo State Sports Commission to successfully implement the initiative across educational institutions in the state.

The delegation also discussed preparations for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, stressing the importance of early planning, effective coordination and strong institutional support to ensure that student-athletes are adequately prepared and well represented.

Responding, the Executive Director Mrs. Sabina Chikere, appreciated the visit and commended the NANS National Director of Sports for his visionary leadership and commitment to grassroots sports development. She reaffirmed the Commission's dedication to promoting sports in Edo State and expressed its readiness to collaborate with NANS in expanding sporting opportunities for young people and strengthening the state's sporting culture.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a shared commitment to establishing a lasting partnership that will deepen sports development, promote youth participation and create greater opportunities for talented student-athletes across Edo State and beyond.
